Oil Seal Material Introduction

The availability of highly developed nitriles resistant to oil, water and many other fluids has widened the field of unit seal application to a great extent, and provided precise conditions of machining accuracy, finish and lubrication are maintained in the mechanisms to which these rubber parts oil seals are applied, they are capable of giving excellent service within a wide range of temperatures and speed conditions.

Almost all oil ring seals are made of nitriles (Buna N) with a mild steel shell. The springs are loaded with or without depends what types are produced. The chemical and physical properties of nitriles are generally, suitable for most application. For higher temperatures, acrylics and silicone should be considered. Acrylics is more expensive than nitriles and silicone is more expensive than acrylics. Nitriles is the lowest cost oil seal compound. In order to show you the physical properties and relative performance of different sealing element, the main ratings are tabulated as following page.
